Atatুrk gave the children a gift
When Mustafa Kemal Atatুrk arrived in Ankara on 27 December 1919, he was the head of the delegation. It was a difficult day, the homeland was occupied. With this title, it was difficult for him to make a bureaucratic contribution to the resistance. Mustafa Kemal issued a circular on March 19, 1920, declaring that a parliament with extraordinary powers should be opened in Ankara. After the election, he told deputies to arrive in Ankara within 15 days. He also called on members of the Ottoman parliament, which was disbanded by the occupying forces, to come to Ankara.
The soul in this call; Brave people who rejected captivity like foreign tissue, whose hearts were carved from the sun and shone like light, would rush to barren Ankara from every corner of the country. The assembly was opened on April 23, 1920 in such a mood. On April 23, 1920, Friday prayers were held at the Hockey Bayram Mosque. The deputies had difficulty passing through the streets full of enthusiastic people. It was difficult to reach the Union and Progress Club building, which was chosen because it was the perfect location for the parliament building, not too far from the Hockey Bayram Mosque. The assembly held its first meeting at about 14:00. The new independent states and republics, whose names have not yet been named, were given a lifeline that day. This assembly was to implement the liberation of the motherland and the establishment of the state together in 3 years. In 1923, the republic would be declared, and a new Turkish state would be established.
Orphans were taken care of
The last period of the Ottoman Empire was marked by successive wars. The First World War began after the Tripoli and Balkan Wars. In Chanakkal, millions of soldiers were killed on the Palestinian, Iraqi and Caucasus fronts. The Himaye-e-Iftal Society was established in 1917 to care for orphans. In 1919, the War of Independence began. After the formation of the Grand National Assembly government, the Himaye-i Iftal Society was reorganized in Ankara in 1921. Every effort has been made to protect the orphans left behind by those who were martyred in the national struggle. The motherland was saved by a great victory on August 30, 1922.
Donation Campaign
April 23, the anniversary of the founding of the Assembly, has been celebrated as National Sovereignty Day since 1923. On the same day, Himaye-e Iftal Society prepares donation stamps. One year later, on April 23, 1924, the Society’s proclamation “Today is Badge Day for our Children” was published in the Hakimiyat-e Miliye newspaper and a grant campaign for the martyred children was launched. The Society’s proclamation was published in the April 23, 1926 issue of Hakimiet-i Miliye under the headline “April 23, Turkish Children’s Day”. The Society has announced that it has adopted April 23 as Children’s Day. It has been announced that coffee makers, car dealers and automobile dealers will donate a portion of their income to the Himaye-e-Iftal Society on April 23. The Children’s Day was declared by the society in 1927 under the patronage of President Mostafa Kemal Ataturk. Atatুrk assigned a car from his office to the children.
It was international
April 23, 1933 was celebrated as Children’s Day for the first time with an official ceremony. Atatর্কrk received the children in his office. In 1933, for the first time, children were asked to sit in the office. In the law enacted in 1935, the name of the holiday was National Dominance Day. But for many years it was celebrated as Children’s Day. With the declaration of 1979 as the Year of the Child by UNESCO, April 23 gained an international character. TRT began organizing the Children’s Festival on April 23, to which children from around the world were invited. With the 1980 regulations, the holiday was renamed National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. Turkey is the only country where a national holiday is given for children.
