Health is a source of happiness for young people

Although the number of young people in the country is counted as 12 million 971 thousand 289 people, 51.3 percent of this population is young and 48.7 percent is young.

According to population estimates, it is predicted that the proportion of young population in the total population will drop to 14.3 percent in 2025, 14 percent in 2030, 13.4 percent in 2040, 11.8 percent in 2060 and 11.1 percent in 2080.

It has been observed that the proportion of young population in Turkey is higher than the 27 member countries of the European Union. Analyzing the proportion of young population in 27 EU member states, the average young population in 2021 was 10.6 percent.

The province with the highest proportion of young population was Hakkari 22.8 percent. The province was followed by Şirnak with 22.1 percent and Sirte with 21.8 percent. The provinces with the lowest proportion of young population are Mughal 12.3%, Tunceli and Balıkesir 12.7%.

As of last year, the net enrollment rate in higher education was 48.5 percent for women and 40.5 percent for men.

According to a study by the Turkish Institute of Statistics (TUIK) “Youth with Statistics 2021”, the net enrollment rate in higher education in the country, which was 43.4 percent in the 2019-2020 academic year, increased to 44.4% in 2020 2021 academic year. In the case of men, the rate dropped from 40.6 percent to 40.5 percent, but in the case of women, it increased from 46.3 percent to 48.5 percent.

Analyzed by age, in 2021, 29 percent of the young population is 15-17 years old, 19 percent is 18-19 years old, 31.1 percent is 20-22 years old and 20.9 percent is 23-24 years old.

According to the results of the Household Labor Force Survey, the youth labor force participation rate was 39.1 percent in 2020, up from 41.7 percent last year. The rates were 53.1 percent for young men and 29.7 percent for young women.

The youth unemployment rate in 2020 was 25.3 percent, it was recorded as 22.6 percent in 2021. While the youth unemployment rate was 22.6 percent in 2020, it has risen to 19.4 percent in 2021. While the rate for young women in 2020 was 30.3 percent, last year it was 28.7 percent.

The rate of youth without education or employment was 24.6 percent last year. This rate was found to be 17.5 percent for young men and 32.4 percent for young women.

The youth employment rate has increased from 29.2 percent in 2020 to 32.2 percent in 2021. While the rate is 38.8 percent for young men in 2020, it has risen to 42.8 percent in 2021, and for young women it has risen from 19.2 percent to 21.2 percent.

An analysis of the sectors shows that in 2021, 18.2 per cent of the working youth were in agriculture, 30.8 per cent in industry and 51 per cent in services.

16.8 per cent of the employed young men are in agriculture, 35.4 per cent in industry and 47.7 per cent in services. It was determined that 21 percent of young women work in agriculture, 21 percent in industry and 58 percent in the service sector.

The rate of those who have dropped out of education despite wanting to continue is 7.6 percent.

According to the results of the Turkey Family Structure Survey 2021, the rate of 15-24 year olds who dropped out of school (including university) despite wanting to continue their education is 7.6 percent. The rate was 6 percent for young men but 6.1 percent for young women.

Analyzing the reasons why young people leave education incomplete, economic reasons rank first with 48.1 percent, followed by education failure with 23.6 percent and family rejection with 10.8 percent.

Health is a source of happiness for young people

Although the rate of young people aged 18-24 who declared they were happy was 47.2 percent in 2020, last year it was 44.5 percent. In 2021, the happiness rate for young people was 38.2 percent and for young women it was 51 percent.

According to the results of the Life Satisfaction Survey, health is the number one source of happiness for young people in 2021 with 45.1%. Success is followed by 22.9 percent and love 16.9 percent. When the source of happiness is analyzed by gender, health ranks first among youth with 43 per cent, success with 24.8 per cent and money with 13.5 per cent. For young women, health ranked first with 47.4 percent, followed by love with 21.2 percent and success with 21 percent.

Last year, 76 percent of young people said they were satisfied with their job and 42.3 percent were satisfied with their earnings. Youth job satisfaction rate was 77.7 percent, satisfaction with income was 43.1 percent, this rate was 72.6 percent and 40.7 percent among young women.

While 59.2 per cent youth said they were satisfied with the education they received, the rate was recorded as 56.3 per cent for youth and 62.3 per cent for young women.

On the other hand, the overall health satisfaction rate of the young population decreased from 84.6 percent in 2020 to 83.5 percent in 2021. The rate was 85.9 percent for young men and 81 percent for young women last year.

Internet usage rate

According to the results of the Family Information Technology Use Survey, Internet use among young people aged 16-24 was 93 percent in 2020, up from 97.1 percent in 2021.

Internet usage has risen from 95 percent in 2020 to 98.4 percent among young people in 2021. Among young women, it increased from 91 percent in 2020 to 95.6 percent in 2021.
